Ciney Gurung is a popular female singer and a songwriter. She is known for her different singing style. She has got unique kind of voice and soulful expression. Ciney is also one of the ambassadors for Children for Green New Nepal (CGNN), an organization working for the environment.

Early Years

Ciney Gurung was born on December 8, 1977 in Kurseong, Darjeeling. Her mother named her Ciney and her pet name is Jim. She is an animal lover and owns a pet dong names Pumba. Music runs in her family as her father is a composer who composed for and sang with legendary Aruna Lama. Since childhood, Ciney was more into music than studies. She took music class along with continuing her education. Though she started her career as an English teacher, she never got away from her love for music. In 2005, she got married to Rojesh Shrestha from X-Mantra Band. They have a daughter together.

Musical Career

Ciney Gurung says that "Music is in my soul". Her musical journey began when she came to Kathmandu in the year 2000 to start her singing career. She started to sing at the Hotel Sangri-La with The Prism Band. In 2005 she released her debut album Yo Man which was a huge success. The songs "Timro Maya ma" and "Mann" became big hit. Her song "Mero Pyaro Manche" from the album Reflections of Love added more popularity among the listeners. She swept most of the major awards for the best female singer for the song. She is a huge fan of Aruna Lama and TaraDevi and adores the singing of Anju Panta and Ani Choying Dolma. Ciney Gurung says that she is blessed with different kind of voice and the people love her for that. She collaborated with pop icon Sabin Rai for the song "Maya" which got awarded at Image Awards.
